Dr. Jory Basso provided a Fecal Microbiota Transplant to his patient and tells the story. A poop transplant, scientifically known as a Fecal Microbiota Transplant (FMT), aka stool transplant, is the process of transferring fecal bacteria and other microbes from a healthy individual into another individual. FMT is an effective treatment for Clostridium difficile bacterial infection (CDI) that can be acquired in the hospital. It is currently being researched for other conditions such as ulcerative colitis, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and Crohn’s disease. It may even help some obese individuals to lose weight as their bacterial colonies could be improperly balanced.
