Strengthen the core so you can do more!
Winter is a time that some tend to go into hibernation mode. But if you really want to embrace winter you need to get outside and enjoy it! Let’s face it – Canadians face harsh, long winters but if you do outdoor activities you may actually enjoy winter and look forward to the snow and cold. There are many great ways to get active this winter including:
- Skating
- Skiing (downhill or cross country)
- Snowboarding
- Snowshoeing
All of these activities have something in common. They require good core strength.
The problem is most people don’t even think of core strength before they embark on these sports. Good core strength can
- Provide more endurance
- Reduce incidence of back and abdominal injuries
- Provide stability and better balance
Imagine you are skiing and decide to try out the slope with trees on it. Good core strength will help you navigate through the tree trunks. Poor core strength may result in not turning fast enough and potentially hitting a tree!
What are some core strength exercises that you can start doing now at home to prepare you for a fun, active, winter?
